Booked him and The Blockheads in 1980 for a gig at UEA. Saw then several times after that and have seen The Blockheads many times on their own since he died. One of the great lyricists. I saw the film when it came out last year... great acting job on Andy Serkis's part.

Yes I still regularly play 'New Boots and Panties' and 'Do it Yourself'. I think I bought 'Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick' as a single and liked the B side (There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards) so much I bought the album and couldn't stop playing it.
I remember seeing a doco on him in the late eighties where he was mucking around singing a ditty called 'Fuck Off Noddy'. It was piss funny.
Oh and for years I was sure his name was spelled 'Drury' - but then I thought February was spelled Feburary until I was about 45.

I always preferred "Reasons To Be Cheerful pt3" over "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick"

Ian use to live near me and would come in to the local pub and after a few drinks would do improvised versions of his songs, a great talent sadly missed.
