Yup, we don't know all the details to the nth degree at the moment, but this definitely looks to me like the creeping privatisation of the NHS in England .

Yeah, it comes to something when not only do the organisations that represent the people working in the NHS, 6 unions, General Medical Council who represent doctors, the Royal College of Nursing, the Patients Association, Tory MPs such as Sarah Woolston who worked as a GP are against Lansley's measures on the grounds that they are too fast, too soon and wont meet their objectives, but even Stephen Dorrell who was the Tory Health Minister between 95 and 97 and now is chair of the Inter Party Health Committee in Wesminister was quoted as saying that he wouldn't do what Lansley is proposing.

Mind you, the American private healthcare companies seem all in favour! Funny that.

Dorell was a horrendous health secretary under Major,god help us all if even he,like you say,can see through these reforms. What isCameron playing at exactly? Hold on,i know,he is living out his schoolboy dream of snuffing oput health care provision for all,free at point of delivery.

Good point. I agree with you.

When he resigned as Health Secretary in 2003 he took a ?30,000 a year job advising a venture capital company working with companies in the private health sector. So at the back of your mind, you think, mmm I wonder what went on with the company whilst he was in office.

I think that the rules on who funds you while you are a Minister with an office etc and who you work for after you leave the Cabinet need tightening up considerably.

Having said that my understanding is that Lansley's measures are going to provide the opportunity for much, much more involvement of private health care companies in the NHS than has ever been seen before. Potentially it is a completely different scale.

Excellent stuff. I just did a quick skim read. I will look at it in more detail later.

I do think by far the biggest enemy of democracy is the multinational. The power that these companies have far outweighs those of government in many ways. Even in the biggest so-called democracies such as the USA and Britain, the room for manouevre within the framework provided by multinational control is so little, that the government and the "opposition" parties sometimes merge into being indistinguishable.
