Captain Pugwash- Innocent or guilty?

Whilst London burns, let us return to a more innocent time. Or was it? I know the writer of Captain Pugwash won a libel case over the alleged mal pronunciations of innocent words and names. But watching this it seems risque beyond mere coincidence!

Sorry about the ad!

It may have been a time of innocence Jim, but I always thought the relationship between Pugwash and his 'cabinboy' Tom was a tad too close, I mean, did Tom fetch Puggy's tea to his hammock every morning with a ' avast me hearty', or was it more a case of ' hook line and one up the stinker'

I wonder if this clip was used as evidence during the libel case? I can't imagine that a jury would not have fallen about laughing at the "Master Bate" followed by, "Point your weapon towards the shore!"

It needs to be passed through a sophisticated audio analyzer to establish whether it is Master Mate or Bate it sounds like Bate to me!

The urban dictionary has a number of entries for 'pugwash'. This is one of them:

"To urinate in the anus of a sexual partner"

If referring to the ship's mate it would be mister mate, not master.

Surely you're not green enough to believe that old urban myth?

It was Hull, anyway.

I knew a WO2 whose name was Bates. So, he was known as Masterbates by all the squaddies on camp.
Mind you, he was a complete and utter wanker.
