Does this make any sense? (warning - politics)

"Social housing landlords will be able to check their tenants' finances after two years in the property, under planned reforms.

Following the review, tenants could be evicted if their financial situation is deemed to have improved enough."

This is ridiculous, but typical of the muddied thinking of successive Tory governments, who caused the social housing shortage in the first place with Right to Buy.

What incentive is there to improve your lot in life if you face losing your home, should your finances improve? Suppose you get a job and earn substantially more than your previous income, BUT not enough to be able to afford a mortgage? I know the answer to this from supporters of this govt is going to be something like, "Why should people in work have homes meant for the poor?" but there's a level between rich and poor and it's not always black and white.

The message from this government appears to be

If you're unemployed you are judged lazy and need to be punished.
If you're sick, you are swinging the lead and need to be punished.
If you're out of work, or sick, you have to find a job despite there being a huge glut of available labour for very few jobs. Or you'll be punished.

And now...

If you do happen find a job and improve your lot, you're going to risk being punished anyway.

Genius.

Could the wedding of Wills and Kate be put out to private tender to gain best value for the taxpayer?

'Checking someones finances' will probably mean nothing more than asking someone on a form how much they have in the way of savings then being asked to prove it by sending in bank statements. They will more or less take your word for it. When you consider there are loads and loads of differnt banks and building societies in the UK and they will have to write to the head office of each one to try and establish whether you are lying or not - and they wont do that.

There were many down my way who made a killing on the council house sale mallarky. Around Wimbledon Common, flats were being sold off for between ?6-10,0000 in the late 70's, they are now worth up to ?1,000.000.

Not everyone who is in a council flat is poverty stricken, many are sub let for profit etc etc. It was the scam of the century. My girlfirend at the time and I, tried to get on the bandwagon, but we were booted out of the housing office, because we'd been responsible and not had any kids.

We had no money and rented privately, but were considered scum by the authorities, couldn't rent or buy a council flat, cos we weren't in the benefit system. This is the point when the benefit's "piss taking" really got started and then blossomed with New Labour.

Utter bollox. I work in the social housing industry and am sick of the constant rumour mongering. The heads of the largest HA's are in deep negotiation with the housing minister and are hell bent on stopping any radical changes that would bad for our tenants and business in equal measure. Fear ye not.

Number six, dear, dear, where did it all go wrong for you? where did all the bitterness come from, I could say the same thing, 'all people who vote Labour hate ALL tories, but that would be bollox wouldn't it? I have friends and family, some vote Tory, some are Lib Dems....you get the picture, I don't see any hate, One of my Uncles was a Labour Counciller for many years, we had many disagreements over politics because I tended to lean to the right.
He hated me enough to leave me a property and ?23,000.
What a Bastard eh?
