The electrical goods chains where I live were going ape about 3D TV earlier this year and how if you didn't rush out and buy one your cock would fall off or something. Well, I've noticed the advertising has dropped off considerably and they're back to pushing standard plasmas and LCDs albeit with the supposedly superior high brightness LED back lighting etc.
This leads me to wonder if 3D TV is a bit of a flop. I'm guessing lack of 'software' (movies you'd actually want to watch) is the problem, and like high definition audio never really took off outside classical recordings, 3D might quietly slip away.
And another bloody thing (in my best Rowan Atkinson voice) , HDTV - I can not see any appreciable difference between standard definition and high definition TV broadcasts. If there is a difference it's so slight you wonder if it's your imagination. In that case it's hardly worth it. And of course, just as people are waking up to this they announce that 'SUPER' High Definition is on it's way next. The ultimate! It will never be improved upon! Yeah.

Re: 3D TV - Anyone Bothered?
Don't know anyone who has bought one yet. My friend has 2 Sony Centre franchises and was going nuts over it earlier in the year but is no longer giving it that much emphasis. I can see it being a bit of a gimmick. Also like a lot of people I wear glasses so a pair of 3d glimmers would be a real pain to wear. Plus Eastenders in HD, 3D or regular would still be shite!
Re: 3D TV - Anyone Bothered?
The only reason why watching 3DTV wearing glasses won't take off is the glasses. People will just get pissed off putting them on and taking them off.
TV manufacturers are already producing 3DTVs that you don't have to wear glasses to watch. They'll probably take off because people are brainwashed fucking idiots. The image you get off an old Sony Trinitron CRT TV is still superior to anything you get off a flatscreen TV but oh no -- you had to chuck it out because flat was where it was at, fuck the actual image quality.
Most people haven't a clue about image quality. I gave up going to the flicks a couple of years ago because my two local cinemas always showed their movies out of focus. The ads would be pin-sharp then the movie would start and it would be out. Not a lot, just enough to take a sharp line (the edge of a table for instance) and blur it off a bit. I'd ask for it to be corrected and be told that I was wrong. "That's the way the movie's supposed to be." Meanwhile, everyone's got to have an HD TV.
I have actually returned to my local cinema twice recently. First time, same story. Last time, the image was crystal clear. I was pathetically elated and grateful.

So true! My boss is the fussiest cunt in the world and needs the best video image quality possible when studying cell changes in the laboratory where I work. He's tried all sorts of digital video set ups and still prefers analog cameras with the old Sony Tritron medical grade monitor. The manufacturers must know that digital has it's problems because they are still bringing out very expensive analog cameras for customers who demand accurate video.
The other thing that bugged me with general consumer digital video - especially in the early days was the flickering, jerky motion you'd see most noticeably on scenes where they pan across a scene.

And I forgot to mention that of course, the old 'Electric Blue' video series from the early 80's had an edition with 3D scenes done with the old green and red filtered cameras and you even got a pair of cardboard and plastic specs with it! It was rubbish of course, but was a great sales gimmick. Nothing's changed.

Re: 3D TV - Anyone Bothered?
3D TV will only really take off once the prices start coming down Deano ... that is starting to happen now. Over here in the UK if you have a full Sky package you can watch lots of 3D material as well - so the content is there at a price of course.
The problem with 3D is not just the glasses - you need to have at least a 46-50" screen to see the full 3D effect and be sat virtually in front of said TV and not at an angle. So basically for a TV room they are ideal but for a normal living room they are pretty useless.
The only real saving grace for 3D this time round is that console gaming in 3D if done correctly will be awesome enough for lots of people to splash the cash regardless ... but early adopters may be left feeling royally bummed once the tech matures a bit imho.!wink!

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?

Upto 40% of people feel nauseous after watching a 3d film while over 10% can't even see it in the first place.
