Just had one of their steak and kidney pies, what a load of rubbish!
i remember these from childhood being full of steak and kidney in a good gravy with the famous pastry top,it seems today that there is hardly any meat,no kidney and even the pastry seems worse.
Are they worse nowadays or am i blinded by nostalgia?
Also, what other products from your youth/childhood seem to be worse today?

The grooves were funkier and the hair dos were bigger. The women were sassier and you could whistle the theme to a lot of tv shows back then

I totally feel your pain Colin.
Iv always loved these and noticed a year or two ago that the tins were getting smaller (whilst the price goes up, surprise surprise) and there was much more of the pastry stuff than anything else in there. You're lucky to get one small piece of kidney and a bit of stringy meat in them nowadays

Nah, they're more or less the same. There aren't any better [mass produced] pies out there in our supermarkets, let's be honest. Most of us just automatically look back to our childhoods with fond memories so everything just seems better. To get a decent pie you're always going to have to find a decent small-town shop where the people make their own.

Homemade steak and kidney pies were always the best just like your mother use to make, and women are still hairy they just shave more these days !wink!

Had one of these in the cupboard for a rainy day and decided after counting my pennies that day had come ... after much manipulation with the tin opener I eventually gave up as the fucker wouldn't open no matter how I attacked it.
Morale of the story - you will need a decent tin opener if you want to sample how shite these Fray Bentos pies are nowadays.!furious!

You would get more meat in them during the 70's. The IRA used to despose of bodies into the processing plants on the Irish border. !hungry!
