Terror Level up to 'severe'....

It has been announced that the Terror Level has been increased from Substantial ('possible') to Severe ('highly likely') in the last hour. The only thing higher than this is Critical ('imminent'). The 7/7 bombers were all home grown terrorists and I heard tonight that MI5 are monitoring 2,000 individuals in the UK (all want to kill us, none can be expelled because of that wonderful thing called The Human Rights Act that Tony Blair signed). We live in dangerous times folks, and they just got more dangerous...

I wish I had your optimism Samuel. They also said tonight on Sky News that people in the know have said that MI5 are looking at 30 potential plots right at this moment. It is said that MI5 are stretched so thin that their 'cupboard is almost bare' (finances and resoources) to keep up with all the fruitcakes in the country who want to kill us and destroy the nation that they all voluntarily moved to and couldnt wait to live in.

I am hoping that it is all bollocks, but what would be the point of the Government unnecessarily upping the threat level? Governments prefer things to be better, not worse, as it helps them politically if things are better - so why would they chose to increase the threat level if there was no justification for dong so?

That sounds like justification for upping the threat level - not a case of them unjustly doing so. If MI5 can barely keep up then the country is genuinely in more danger.
Homicide rate down/Paranoia up

The homicide rate in this country is at its lowest for 20 years.
Take it easy, you will scare yourself to death.
Terrorist threats, real or imagined, do have their uses.

One of the things that surprises me is that given:
1. The allegedly large number of extremists wanting to do harm to British citizens.
2. The ease at which guns can be purchased.
Why has mass slaughter not stalked the streets of Britain over the last few years, Max?
Pour yourself a whiskey, get hold of a comedy novel and have an early night.

Wasnt the goverment recently told that their stop and search was illegal under European law, so raise the threat level and then continue with the stop and search.
