The worst movie ever made...

The general view is that 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' made by the legendarily awful director Ed Wood, is the worst film of ALL time. It was made in 1959 and it has a cult following amongst bad-movie buffs in America to this day. Leonard Maltin, the respected American film critic, said of the film "Described as the worst movie ever made - and certainly one of the funniest!" It has so many mistakes, inconsistencies in the plot, shadows of microphones in scenes, dustbin lids on strings for UFO's, and even the main actor DYING halfway through filming and being replaced with a much shorter person, who held a cape over his face, for the rest of the film! More info:

Other than this awful, but hilarious, film what would other people's suggestions be for the title of worst film of all time?

The thing with Plan 9 is, yes, it has been classed as the worst film ever been made, but it's one of those films that is so bad, it's good, especially when you consider the actors and budget Ed Wood had to work with. I have Plan 9 and never tire of watching it, just for the laughs. No Hollywood superstars there.

As for films with high budgets and Hollywood superstars, the worst has to be Highlander 2, Charlies Angels, The Avengers and The Saint. In fact anything where Hollywood has made big screeners from small screen 60s and 70s TV shows. Truly dreadful films that I've only ever seen once, and will stay that way.

I agree Dolph Lungren is awful, I see him as being in the same catagory as Arnold Swarzenegger - it is almost a joke that either were considered 'actors'.

Highlander 2 is dreadful, that film was greatly anticipated as the first film was so good, and everyone was very disappointed - even the main star, Christopher Lambert, said years later that #2 was terrible.

There is a film starring Sylvetor Stallone and an old lady who, I think, starred in The Golden Girls, called 'Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot'. This is one of the worst films ever. Stallone even said so himself.

Another dreadful one is Jaws 4. Michael Caine, one if its stars, says he has never watched it and at one point during the filming there was an awards ceremony happening somewhere else that Caine considered attending. Apparently the Director was afraid that if Caine went, he may never return!

But I didnt think Charlies Angels was that bad. Quite liked Sam Rockwell in it.

'Plan 9 From Outer Space' is like 'Tokyo Story' compared to 'Mesa of Lost Women'. Indubitably, the best worst film ever made.

For me the worst film I ever saw was, "The Swarm" with Michael Caine. I love the clip below when he runs about a town shouting, "The killer bees are coming!" and instead of getting locked up, everyone listens to him and goes hysterical. The film is full of gems.

Here's another great clip, where the headmistress attempts to warn her kids about the attack without scaring them LOL

Scorsese's remake of Cape Fear is the worst film ever.

The depressingly spectacle of a once major talent desperately trying, and failing, to do something other directors* can do in their sleep.

*De Palma, for instance, who at least brings a much needed macabre wit to his enjoyably lurid Hitchcock pastiches.
