Stalin versus Hitler...

Something that was posted on another thread got me thinking. It was a comment about how modern Germany must be fed up with how some would view them in the same way as they viewed the Nazi's, and I, and others, said that we don't as you can not blame people for what their parents did. It got me thinking though: Hitler was one of history's most evil men and aswell as the unspeakable horror of the 6 million Jewish people in the Holocauast, vast numers of other people died in World War 2 aswell. Did you know though that Josef Stalin has the most blood on his hands of anyone EVER? He killed a lot more people than Hitler did and most of them after Hitler had done what he did. Why is Stalin not vilified like Hitler is? I mean, most people would probably be unaware of the fact I just gave, yet everyone knows about Hitler's evil. One theory I have is it's because the Jewish Lobby are so powerful in the USA. What are other peoples views?

Stalin was everything Hitler ever wanted to be and a lot more besides ! He made my wifes ancestors very, very poor from being very rich and killed a lot of them too.
There is a massive beautiful building (a block even) right in the middle of St Petersburg that they owned until one day in 1926 when Stalins heavies turned up said "fuck off we own it now" ! It is now 142 apartments (yes in one block).
My wifes mother did make an attempt to claim it back about 10 years ago and was told by the newere versions of Stalin (they just don't kill so many any more) "sure you find papers to prove your family own or owned it and it's yours" knowing full well that if any such papers do/did exist she ain't got a hope in hell !

Dave, that's interesting. Any views on why Hitler is more infamous and reviled more than Stalin is, when the latter bumped-off far more people?

Hitler had a far better moustache, and better dress sense, however, they were both complete cunts.

I have to agree both Hitler and Stalin were evil men but lets move on a few years. We had Churchill who I regard as a great man but I've been in Russia and I've been in Germany( though I've never stayed there for any length of time) and I honestly think they are countries who are a lot better off than we are. Since so much was destroyed, all their industries are more advanced than ours, plus they still have people who believe they can better themselves by working instead of being happy to collect benefits. There seems to be no incentive here to make people work, as many seem to see benefits as an entitlement they are owed even though they have never worked a day in their lives.

Hitler, with his sharp, new-romantic haircut, his photogenic image, and his penchant for spectacle and cinema (Triumph of the Will), certainly understood the power of the media.
Versus Stalin? One horse race, frankly.

I think most of people who died because of Stalin were due to disease, famines and general incompetence while the holocaust had more to do with hate.
Yes Stalin has more blood on his hands but I think it was the underlying motives behind the death tolls that people look to when comparing the two.

All the German uniforms were better.
Unlike our troops of the time, who, as Spike Milligan once noted, looked like 'Sacks of shit tied in the middle.'
