The Freemason's in the Police...

It is well known that many senior Police officers are Freemasons but I've often wondered how this affects their day to day duties. I've just seen this in 'Ashes To Ashes' on BBC1 and it got me thinking. Do suspects get special treatment if they 'do the funny handshake'? Do people in the Force get promoted quicker or get a blind-eye turned to things because they are 'one of the bretherin'? Does anyone know how being a Mason, or the existence of the Masons in general, affects things within the Police? I'm intrigued...

It's not just the funny handshakers and their possible influence amongst plod. I'm concerned that the Hubbardists are possibly making inroads.

Anyone know any examples of things that are affected by all of this?

As they remain something of a mystery to most, you're always going to get old myths about subtle nods in court and judges showing leniency to 'those of the brethren' as you say, and the right 'handshake' will secure you that job at the interview allegedly, but I imagine it's mostly twaddle.

The oddest thing I've heard about them was that they murdered the late Stanley Kubrick due to Eyes Wide Shut being a veiled expose of masonic ways (there's supposed to be a few vague symbols loitering in the background). He died just four days after completion, so they certainly didn't waste any time. Utter rubbish, presumably.

Most of it is bullshit. Largely it's an excuse for cheap drink in the masonic hall and a night away from the missus.

I know a lot of people who are members and they've not had many special favours beyond maybe giving someone a homer to fix their car or something which is probably the same as you you would normally get in your local.

I think poor old Stanley gave up when he saw what a piece of shit Eyes Wide Shut was. Dr Strangelove, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and then he produces that steaming turd of a movie. What a fucking shame.
