The Jade Goody business: a new low for Britain?

I really feel that the things happening around Jade Goody's final days may never have happened in our country before, and mark a real low point in our history. Consider these facts:

*We have a publicist making money out of his client's impending death;
*A man marrying his dying partner because money is being paid;
*A man who will continue to make money out of it after she has died (look out for highly lucrative "How I'm coping without my Jade" exclusives in celeb trash mags for ages to come);
*A criminal let out of prison to get married, and now becoming a star because of it (a man who will probably never see her sons again after she dies);
*Two children, way above the standard Christening age, getting Christened because money is being paid (by a magazine);
*The commercial sponsorship of a religous ceremony in Britain;
*A 27 year old woman (Goody) getting Christened herself (the oldest person I've ever heard of to be Christened) because money is paid (by a magazine);
*A 'charity' run, supposedly for cancer, where people without much money are asked to donate, when really ever penny is going to the Goody family;
*A woman (Goody) posing in very stage-managed photos (bald head, bare shoulders) for the covers of tabloid newspapers, because the more shocking the image the more copies it sells and the more money is made. Other people would have a hat or scarf on;

As every element of her final days is up for sale, can be sponsored, and as much money as possible is gained from all of it, why not go the whole hog and have photos taken of her in the morgue, the day after her final day, and auction them off to the highest bidder in order to make MORE CASH!! Her scumbag 'publicist' Max Clifford is probably considering this right now! Goody is said to have ?2m to her name already, and that means if it was put in a high interest account at 6%, her two children would get ?120,000 a year for life - which is a lot of money for anyone. I honestly believe we have sunk lower with all of this, if you look at what I've listed above, than we have ever sunk before as a nation. The things I've listed above are shocking! What are other people's views?

I think what makes all this even worse is that this woman is a talentless, foul mouthed, ignorant, racist, chav nobody.

If someone "famous" is dying (like say football legend Bobby Robson) then I dont mind this being in the news.

But this woman has done NOTHING except appear on some awful reality TV show where she showed her complete ignoranace and stupidity (and in a follow up reality show she showed her racist views).

The fact she has made a lot of money with no obvious talent says a lot about how low this country has sunk.

The fact that the tabloid magazine that paid to photograph her sham "marriage" sold out in shops the day it was released also sums up how low we have sunk.

max_tranmere and Guilbert:

I agree 100% with everything you say.

We had a discussion on the Goody thing a week or two ago, and I don't really have much to add really beyond what I said then.

But yes, the whole thing stinks to high heaven and it speaks volumes about how low collective morals and standards in the UK have sunk when people like Jade Goody, who have absolutely zero talent and nothing at all to offer to society (even obscenely overpaid footballers have a skill, and provide a form of mass entertainment) can rise to such prominence and fortune simply through being "famous for being famous".

And Max Clifford is a money-worshipping cunt of the first order, and virtually everything he touches has a foul stench to it.

Horrible, horrible - the whole thing.

I don't watch any of the rubbish, but there are reports everywhere - the TV news, radio news, headlines at Yahoo etc. etc. If she's about to die, she should do it quietly with her family - all this b/s about securing a future for the kids is just that --- bullshit, their futures are secured a dozen times over already.

Perhaps he'll not call her Jane Goody this time, when he jumps back on the bandwagon.
