Metallica... How rich are they !!

I watched that documentary film about Metallica on More4 a couple of nights ago and was blown away by how loaded these guys are. It was also worth noting how ordinary they are aswell. Added on to their studio is a room where they sit and eat during recording breaks and where they have meetings too. This room looked no differnt to a porta-kabin where AA or RAC breakdown repair men would go on their breaks - average table, cooker, fridge, etc. Having auditioned various people in their quest to find a new bass player, they congregated in the room at the table. Lars Ulrich, the drummer, said to the guy they had chosen "we would like to give you ?1 million to join our band". He obviously agreed! James Hetfield, the frontman, then described to him the percentage he would get.
With this new album they were recording, Lars Ulrich decided he wanted to restart his life and put behind him many things he had had in his life for the last 10 years. We see Lars' mansion (probably one of several) and he decided to sell all his paintings. These were huge - like 15 foot by 20 foot in size, and he had bought them all over the last 10 years. They are transported to an auction house in New York and Lars watches as they sell for an average of $5 million each! And he is just the drummer! Imagine the wealth of James Hetfield and the lead guitar player, who are repsonsible for a lot of the song writing duties - and of course the song writers get the biggest chunk of the cash! This is one of the world wealthiest bands, and one of the most normal aswell. Always keen to chat to fans and seem genuinely touched when meeting a fan and the fan says something nice to them.
Rock'n'roll.......
