Britian, A facist state?

On the radio this morning, a council has banned anybody who smokes from ever being a foster parent, the reasoning behind it....a child needs the best possible envioronment to thrive in.

No mention of drugtaking, alcohol abuse or unatural sexual preferences, just smoking apparantly.

Now, let me think...would I rather place a kid in a loving home where one of the parents goes outside for a toke, or should I put them with a pair of pissheads who hide it well..

It might be a step too far, Liz; but it hardly makes Britain a fascist state....

We would be in dire danger of being a fascist state in England if the Etonian led Tory party ever formed a Government though.

I must admit I'd ban smokers from anywhere but their own houses and I'd certainly stop them from adopting. It's a prejudiced view, but I hate smoking with a vengence. I'd rather a child stayed in care than end up with human chimneys.

As a council has a legal duty of care towards the children in its care, I'm surprised its taken this long. Children brought up in an environment in which they see adults smoking sre more likely to see it as acceptable and smke themselves later in life. If potential foster parents are prepared to foster in the first place, then surely stopping smoking for the benefit of the child isn't too much to ask.

Sounds like someone has an idealistic attitude

The facts are those prepared to be involved in foster care is dieing with that generation so its hard to see how this sort of discrimination is going to be practical as the numbers continue to fall

Still far better to have children at risk left unsupervised in motel/hotel rooms like routinely happens in South Australia when suitable foster care cant be found

Departments are a wonderful thing NOT
