Adult website subscriptions and credit cards

I recently joined an adult american website online and after I downloaded what I wanted I cancelled the subscription, literally the same day.
I called and spoke to an operator and she confirmed the cancellation, i even received an email to confirm it.
I then noticed strange activity on my credit card and I rang my credit card company to say that i had unrecognized transactions.
They made me speak to the website call centre again and then they said that I should write a letter to revoke authority.
Then a completely different company started to take the same money from my account. I again spoke to a call centre, but they claimed they didnt have my details.
I requested a new card but I am still being charged! i spoke to my Credit card company and I said that I wanted to pay off my balance and close my account. They said that its a subscription so I am still liable even though I have cancellation confirmations and I am being charged by websites that I never subscribed to.
Please can someone give me some advice, i don't think i'm the first and I wont be the last to experience this.

sounds like you have a shit credit card company
call them back and ask to speak to their fraud dept - which is what's happening, also ask for details of their complaints procedure which sometimes concentrates their mind
tell them you're not happy with the level of protection you're getting after alerting them to suspect transactions and maybe slip in that you've considered contacting the finanical ombudsman
also contact the original website and explain the score, saying your started a fraud investigation with your card company
finally check your computer for viruses etc

Which site was it?
Naming and shaming may help others avoid sharp operators.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hang about you said you joined a site and downloaded all that you wanted then cancelled your membership???
Well right there you lost any sympathy from me because you got your arse gnashed didnt you?
If you was a decent honest citizen and paid for what you got I could understand but you did it and took your money back???
What makes me laugh with people like you is that when something comes back on you as a result of your own dodgy dealing (and it was wrong there are no two ways about it)- you scream injustice the way you are doing here.
In my case its hands over the ears big time and singing loudly: "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB! LITTLE LAMB! LITTLE LAMB! MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB"
I dont wanna hear it! You lost all credibility in your case. You fucked first and got fucked after. Sounds like a fair trade to me.
Oh yeah ...and on a more friendly advice note: You should stick to reputable sites. If it was an american site why not name which one it is. I doubt the BGAFD are going to be protective of a site 3000 miles away.

I think you have the wrong end off the stick Jack. I think he paid for the site, downloaded what he he wanted and then ended his sub so he wouldn't be rebilled.
He wasn't trying to get a refund out of them. I often end subs early just incase I forget to cancel and have to pay another month.
Maybe you are right but that's the way I read it.

What Captain Kebab said...OEJ seems to have leapt to the conclusion it was a chargeback, not a cancellation.

Sound advice
I'd add charge backs should only be used as a last resort because billing companies can get your name, address & card black banned pretty easily
as i found out when my bank charged back amounts i hadn't asked them to
in error.Silly bastards couldn't fix the problem so I'm blackbanned almost anywhere major billing companies operate
In my experience you've got to persevere with the billing company call centre before you go the heavy hand of your credit card company
Who are you being billed by?Do they have a website where you can cancel the billing?Whats the site you joined?

Important question: did you subscribe to this site direct or was it through a payment provider (such as CCBill for example)?

thanks for the advice.
Jack, you have your right to your own opinion, but i dont appreciate your insults.
I paid for the content that I wanted to see and then I cancelled my subscription.
I am not disputing my payment for the content that i downloaded or for that month at all. You have totally missed what I was saying.
I have a problem with the transactions for the months after I cancelled. I have a cancellation receipt but i have been charged by different companies which i have not authorized to take payment.
In conversations with my credit company, i have been effectively told that even with proof of cancellation, i cant do anything to stop them or others from fraudulently using my details, even if I close the account!!!
I posted it here because I wanted some advice and also to highlight this problem to others.
i appreciate that it is an american site, but others who visit BGAFD may have had similar experiences
please note that I am not trying to argue
the site was

Given all of the subsequent problems, I really dont know.
I went to one of the sites and I thought it was a straightforward subscription but in conversations with my credit company I have been charged by some other companies who i think mange transactions for these sites?? All really weird
