Some magicians tricks are so fucking clever, I'd be prepared to believe they are actually performing magic rather than just tricks.
Anyone here been utterly stumped at how they do it?

I'm stumped quite a lot! But then again they are practiced individuals at fooling other peoples minds, and we are unpracticed at working out how they are fooling us, so they nearly always do.
No real magic at all - unless you count Tommy Cooper !laugh!

Worth watching the film The Prestige. Marvellous, clever stuff.

Having seen magic tricks pulled apart its pretty hard to believe but you got to give the performers cudos when a live trick leaves you none the wiser
As for copperrfield and his TV specials...fucking joke...nothing more than trick photography using 2 sets most of the time
I call magic, the art of distraction

Yes, anything done on TV doesn't count for obvious reasons. But I've heard of tricks where playing cards turn up in peoples wallets etc. Of course, if you dont know the person then they're likely to be part of the act but I've heard a couple of people who went to a magic show tell how it was done to them and they have no idea how.
The explanation is probably on the web somewhere.

As much as paul daniels was an annoying little sod... I loved his programs as they seemed much less rehearsed and "real."
The big US telly productions were highly faked... you didn't see what the "real audience" saw.
That said... i upset a magition once when I worked out how his act worked at the age of 7ish.... and that it was slight of hand (he dropped the figure's flat on the table and used mis-direction) when I said loudly for the 5th time to lift the cloth up I was bundled out of the church hall by my dad and forbade to go to another magic show.
Didn't help that my dad was the reverend of said church hall and it was part of the harvest festival to keep us kids quiet, lmao.

My favourite's Jerry Sadowitz - wish he was still on tv
As for Paul Daniels I do agree with you. Once saw him do some
close up trick on Parky and although the viewers could see how he
was fooling Parky, he couldn't see what Daniels was doing right
under his very nose

I have been amazed by most magicians I have met. They turn up, remove their clothes and my wallet is always 200 pounds lighter in cash. I also call them models. Absolutely amazed. lol
