You know, I've been online since 98 and never torrented anything, nor know anything about it.

Anyone point me in the right direction? Do I need special software etc?

I use BIT torrent to download music.

BT torrent is the p2p program sharing software.
Then you use various search tools for example Torrent Reactor.

You can find loads of these search tools by looking down the list on the left of BITorrent "Top 100 sites" I think it is called.
Once you have clicked on one (I often use Torrent Reactor) you will see a search box.
Look for something simple to start with eg a current song.
Hopefully it will locate it.
Most will be MP3 files.
Other information displayed will be the HEALTH.
This will give you information of the number of people who have a complete 100% copy of the song and are connected ready to share These kind souls are called SEEDS.
The other term used is for people sucking up the songs onto their computers and are called LEACHES.

I have been using it for at least two years and as you can probably gather from my explanation I still don't understand it. I just know how to do it and could only really show someone.
Perhaps Jacques is lurking to properly guide you.
One thing though you have to be very careful concerning Virus protection.
Do not click on any pop ups ie Free laptop.....or a pop up offering software that speeds porn downloads.
And once you have downloaded something do not open or play it until you have run a virus check on it.

Cheers PC.

I did download some torrent software last year, as I wanted to get hold of the early '24' episodes. It didn't seem to work so I gave up.

I'll check it out; thanks. !thumbsup!

You will find the first 6 series of 24 here

(use search)

or here

Try to download torrents with largest number of 'seeds' as this will speed up the process.

Sam - forgot to mention I use BitComet with no probs. Download free from here

loads of useful setup info here

and a fairly comprehensive list of torrents here

One thing to remember if you are on a restricted broadband package is that you are uploading a lot at the same time as you are downloading ad this will count to your total.

Good luck

Be very careful Sam, these are riddled with viruses, trojans, etc.

Do not use BitComet. It does not report your stats properly and many sites won't let you download without a good ratio.

Unlimited you might think Sam, but read the smallprint. Most ISP's frown on P2P and newsgroup usage and will slow your connection down to a trickle during peak times if you don't adhere to their fair usage policy.
Who are you with anyway??

Be* don't - in fact no-one has been hit with a FUP or had a warning.

Does pay to shop around and read the small print.
