I watched three seasons of Deadwood in a row, so I was really in the mood for this type of music. Apparently the Boss locked himself and a bunch of folk musicians in his house for a few days and this was the result. Highly recommended from Nasty Towers.

It could only be made in these kinds of siege conditions ? Worthy enough, but more recently 'The Boss' was talking about more contemporary stuff he'd been listening too like Four Tet .. influenced by his son's record collection. Why not look at what's happening now rather than what was going down in the 50s/60s ?

Awesome album, the session players are fine musicians and the whole album has a real buzz about it.

The tracks on "The Seeger Sessions" are all American folk standards, some with roots in the nineteenth century.

Springsteen has said that he never listened to folk because he had a preconception of what it meant (as a rock 'n' roll kid), but then a few years ago he heard some Seeger and it changed his view of the genre.

Any good musician loves music, whatever the era or genre. Steve Earle is doing a collaboration with the Dust Brothers for example.

Looking back or sideways doesn't mean an artist's not plugged into the contemporary. It just denotes someone who's interested in music, rather than the latest indie or dance band flogged up the charts by A&R spivs.
