Smokers

With the smoking ban coming in I've been listening to a lot of smokers talking about the ban being a "nanny state law" or a "breach of their civil rights", as if the government is bringing the ban in to save their health and their health only. Is it just me or are smokers either dumb or simply self centred, 'cause what they seem to not realise after all these years of non-smokers dropping dead of lung cancer is that smoking does just as much or even more harm than it does the smokers themselves! So, my question is, does it take a very low IQ to be a smoker, or are these people who whinge about the smoking ban just a load of selfish c***s?

If I was to fart audibly, after a week of boiled cabbage, rancid eggs and the likes, in a crowded pub, and waft about the ensuing fumes, I'd at least be thrown out and more likely have my lights punched out.
Yet smokers think they can allow others to share their noxious smells with impunity.

If you go back to the origins of the concept of 'freedom', John Stuart Mill et al, it was essentially 'freedom to do anything you like so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else'.
Smoking patently does hurt other people, so banning it is acceptable and justified.
No one is stopping people from smoking. They are stopping non-smokers from having to put up with it when they go out.
And I say to all the moaning "we've-lost-our-civil-liberties-what-is-this-nazi-germany" gang - just fucking deal with it.
IQ has nothing to do with it, those moaning are selfish cunts. And for the record I am a smoker.

So when you exhaled your smoke naturally went in the direction of only smokers did it?

I don't know where IQ comes in to it.
Yes there are personality traits you could probably find, but IQ wouldn't play a part. I see where you're coming from though. You're assuming they must be a little dumb to smoke, knowing all the dangers? I say, they know the dangers, but their addiction conquers all.
Selfishness? Definitely a majority are. A lot of smokers think non-smokers are just being 'a pain in the arse' or 'moralising'. They cannot see the problem......but then again, neither can alcoholics see what the big deal is, or someone addicted to gambling who's blind to the affects it's having on his wife & kids.
Last time I went into Sheffield city centre on a night out, there were already a few pubs imposing the ban. Seriously, these pubs were busier than the 'smoking allowed' pubs.
You'll find a lot of people with asthma and other lung related problems will have a whole new social network!

It's always the smokers' comeback, and it's a very good point.

It's a brilliant point.
The answer is yes.
Why? Because I need to and when I don't have to I don't.
Transport like it or not is essential these days.
Smoking on the other hand is something done purely for pleasure.
