It must be on it's way to hell in a handcart if they're taking inspiration from the McCoy years .. surely ? !grin!

Sets up the next 2 episodes, though the return of The Master hasn't been a well kept secret!

I thought the episode was rather average until the professor showed Martha his watch and then it was just brilliant, tied in brilliantly to the Human Nature two parter.
Derek Jacobi was both touching and menacing and he's a fantastic actor.
I knew that The Master was in this series and that John Simm would play him but I didn't know that Derek Jacobi would play him also.
I can't believe that I never even twigged that YANA would be some clue to his identity
Can't wait for the next two episodes.

It also did some explaining of Captain Jack's situation, something Torchwood couldn't do.

Yawn...over half the episode consisting of running up and down corridors (yep a staple of the old series but they had to pad 2 hours) with 2 out of th e 3 main characters being immortal so the idea of threat goes out th e window and at last the master is revealed to be even more cheesey/cheeky chappy/tiremsome than the Doctor is.
The last couple of episodes were actually quite good and stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the series so i should take comfort in the fact its back to normal.
Anyone one on the forum watch BSG?

I enjoyed the episode but I don't like John Simm as the Master. As Wayne says he is just too cheesy and seems like he is really trying to be how David Tennant was in his first series.
I liked Derek Jacobi as the Master and was quite sad when he started to regenerate. I'm not sure how John Simm will measure up against Anthony Ainley - just don't think he's even going to come close as being the Master.
Also yes it was good to get a little more background info on Jack - altho he really now needs to decide what his sexual preference is lol

He's pansexual----don't think anything with a pulse is safe from him.
Know what you're saying about Ainley, Harmony, but compared with Roger Delgado (the original Master), he was an overcooked ham.
I think Simm is using Tennant as a template, but pushing the darker side that DT has just hinted at...
Joan Redfern: Answer me this - just one question, that's all. If the Doctor had never visited us, if he'd never chosen this place... on a whim... would anybody here have died?
[the Doctor does not answer]
Joan Redfern: You can go now.
