New Wembley - big letdown

Tried to stay awake thru this aftds borefest of a cup final. The new Wembley is a big, bland modern stadium. That is it, nothing else, no better than Riverside, Pride Park or the Reebok, only bigger and more expensive.

Actually quite pleased Chelsea won, from a neutral point of view, just to fuck up Fergie's weekend. 3 weeks ago they were a cert for the treble, now just the one. Time to walk Alex.

Yeah I wasn't that impressed although they fix the pitch was awful but one thing I did notice and found very alarming was from one particular camera angle you could see a huge a roll up/down shutter down over the tunnel entrance which looked terrible. What do you need a shutter for ?

Time to walk, my arse.

No one gave Man Utd a hope in hell of winning the league this year. It was Chelsea's title again, with maybe a hope of a cup for the other 3 of Man Utd, Arsenal & Liverpool.

Kind of worked the other way around didn't it? I don't think any Man Utd player would swap medals with the Chelsea boys do you?

I just had to laugh at all the ten year ticket holders and hangers on who forked out large sums to watch that rubbish! Money is ruining the game there will be no more Coventrys, Crystal Palaces, Wimbledons, Sunderlands Ipswichs in finals anymore. Just the same four teams playing out dour "we darent not lose" games. Crap! Rather go to Wembley to watch the FA Vase than cup final.

The game was absolutely dreadful, the pitch cut up terribly, and I think it was a mistake the FA abandoning the Millennium Stadium.

I went to the FA Vase final last weekend and found it a lot more entertaining.

Shame that AFC Totton lost but I would prefer to watch them and my ticket was only ?15!!!!

Up the Stags!!!!

It was an abysmal game. I'm a Utd fan but much of that game outdid the Liverpool cup final which was only enlivened by Cantona's goal. This afternoon was terrible. I'd rather it was settled in 'normal' time rather than go to penalties, but neither side really deserved to win or lose on the balance of play. Man Utd were a little more attack-minded but I appreciate that Chelsea were a little depleted.

Nevertheless I remember when Utd beat Millwall and the papers kind of scoffed and intimated that it was a poor season when all you have to show is the FA Cup. Okay, Chelsea have the Coca Cola which was won against an Arsenal reserve side to some extent. I'm not deriding Chelsea's achievements but when you're 'up there' you've got to take the pot-shots and the mischief making from newspapers. Their biggest mistake in buying Ballack and Shevchenko was believing that they only had to turn up to some games and a good start galvanised United and bred belief.

Today was disappointing for everyone. It's hardly satisfying for Chelsea just like it wouldn't have been any great satisfaction for United to win in similar circumstances. Just best forgotten really.

I agree with Caractus. The Millenium Stadium, with it's tall, upright, looming stands created a claustrophobic intense atmosphere, it was amazing.

The new Wembley is just arse.

Cant make a proper judgement myself cause I havent been yet, but on the television it looks like just another modern stadium. I know the old stadium was past its glory days but it was still Wembley! The twin towers, the players emerging from behind one goal, the long walk to the centre, all the history and tradition. Just didnt seem like a Wembley cup final to me, but them im prob getting old!

I wasn't happy with the pitch, nor even the worse, the long climb to the trophy.
107 steps? Bollocks!!

What was even worse were the live commentators trying like bastards to grab a player/manager at the final whistle for their thoughts. Cunts!! Let the team enjoy themselves for 10 minutes instaed of asking them wanky questions
