Paul Jewell and Stuart Pearce.

I feel a bit soory for Pearce because I think he did fairly well with resources he had. Samaras was unproven and Corradi, although an Italian international, has never been freescoring. Until they found Mpenza the only alternatives were Vassell (a modest scorer) and Dickov who I think was injured most of the season. It could have been a different story had they signed someone like Benni McCarthy who was inexpensive ... but they didn't.

Just watch what happens with City now. From facing an exit from the club, what's the betting thug Barton gets to stay. The manager's job these days is to ignore or excuse the crimes of your players. Anyone who chooses to do otherwise soon finds out where the power really lies.

Feel sorry for Pearce and Jewell.

Is it of coincidence that Jewell has resigned and Pearce has been sacked?

Both are good....... Pearce would do well at Bolton if that post is vacant after a spell. Jewell........hmmmmm.

Another good manger, a title-chasing Championship club should be pursuing him.

No doubt, early next season, there will be a glut of mangerial sackings from the poor-starters. If Jewell bides his time, he'll no doubt feature at the helm of a Premiership side soon.

You never know.... they might even get experience of the world's best Superleague. Fast n furious. Blood. Thunder. Crunchinmg tackles. From the current champions, decent football.

As a City fan I think Pearce made some shocking buys. After a really good start to his management career, SWP goes, Anelka had already gone and was never replaced, Fowler went back to Liverpool, Andy Cole came and went, David James made his excuses, Joey Barton goes mad and the foreign lads he brings in all moan about a division in the dressing room. Having said that, I wish him well and I'm sure he'll do well for the England U21's where in my opinion he's probably best suited coaching younger players.

Like all City fans though, I'm glad to see the back of last season it was fucking dreadful. Pity he hasn't taken Samaras with him.

Wigan chairman said he didn't know until this morning about Jewells resignation and yet he had a new manager in place by 3 o'clock this afternoon.
