Emloyment query

I left my curent job today - I start a new one on monday! I agreed today and tomorrow off, to tie up some loose ends (dentist etc) but went in early to hand over to the new guy - in my own time! 15 minutes before I had agrred to leave (2 weeks ago) my bos demanded that I stay indefinately to do some stuff. I was quite annoyed, and explained I had planned stuff and booked time off - he said there was no signed proof of this and I had to stay. I went outside for a fag, and while out there thought, fuck it and just went home. It's a very big company - can they do anything or am I being paranoid? They only issue standard references, but could they argue I went AWOL do you think??

Don't let your employers take you for a mug.
You've given notice of your leaving date, thats the end of it. Make sure you check your final salary and politelely remind him that if he DARES starts to piss you around with owed money/P45, then you will be contacting the wage tribunal. Big Companies shit themselves when you mention this.

He was just being an arse. I don't know your individual circumstances but they don't have to pay you for the two days you've had off unless you were sick or booked those days in as holidays.

Don't worry about it and enjoy your long weekend!

Thanks! I think these big companies just like to bully and intimidate to see what they can get away with. I was just wondering if they'd be able to sack me instead of resigning. They left a message on my phone saying if I didnt come back they'd 'take it further' but i cant think how they can, so probably they were just trying to scrape a few more hours free labour out of me.tossers.

Check your contract for small print, if you had one. Many years ago when I left the only staff job I've ever had, because I left it 'til after lunch to tell them I was leaving, they made me wait an extra week.

Fear ye not. You are leaving, have given the correct notice etc. When I took redundancy a few years ago from a huge company I clocked in on my last day, went to the canteen for a brekkie, got my cheque then went and played Golf.

Hey!! Come Monday you could do what i did once.....go back to your old work place go into where you used to work and right in front of every one kick the shit out of the smug little fucker who tried to bully you. If the bloke in question is as popular as the chap I did it too you will be amazed by just how many people "saw nothing"

My current boss how ever is not only me Dad,but he is one handy cunt so may not try it if i ever leave this job. But still worth keeping mind

Enjoy the weekend you crazy kids.

Stay strong, Questa.

A lot of us have been there.

See Citizen's Advice, hopefully moving from there to an employment lawyer.

Kick them in the balls when they are trying to slap you in the face.
