Olive oil

For all you consumers of extra virgin olive oil. If you look under the olive trees you will notice that no weeds or grass grow under neath them and this is because most Italians use a white substance (I think that it is ammonium sulphate) to inhibit the growth of grass and weeds. About this time of year they sweep them up for pressing from the bare earth (although some use nets underneath the olive trees so that contact with the earth is avoided) and put them into baskets. The first pressing without heat is the cold pressed oil which I used to buy from Sainsburys or occasionally from the local corner shop. The moral of this story is always buy organic.
