WELL, stone the crows, it was a common or garden RTA after all!!!
Hardly a surprise Stevens should conclude that no-one was responsible for trying to murder Di.
Can you imagine if he HAD found evidence to suggest this was the case?
Then the WHOLE system collapses like a pack of cards.
So, the public have to be told a simple lie to placate them that everything's all right with the world.
Now, remind me again, didn't that happen sometime in the mid-1960s when an American Commission concluded a lone nutter with a crappy two-bit rifle with a defective scope shot two people with three bullets, one of which remained virtually intact after hitting its targets?
Something reeked about the Warren Report and I'm not convinced about this Stevens' effort either.
I'm no Royalist - far from it - but I had a lot of time for Diana and applauded her efforts trying to ban anti-personnel landmines.
She made a lot of enemies with ''The Firm'' and the Queen's heartless reaction following Di's death spoke volumes.
R.I.P. Diana - the truth will come out one day.
Stevens' Inquiry Verdict - quel surprise!

the simple fact is that if she had been wearing a seatbelt she would be alive like her bodyguard is.

I don't really see a similarity with JFK. He was a President who, amongst other things, made serious enemies of the CIA, anti-Castro Cuban exiles, and the Mob. In the early 60's all three of these groups were in co-operation in efforts to kill Castro, that's documented fact. The idea that they could have come together to get rid of a President they hated, and who had suppressed their various illegal activities, is far from unreasonable. They had no moral qualms about killing, and JFK's security was far looser than Casto's.
By contrast, Diana was by 1997 a private citizen, with moral authority, but no control over the actions of government. Mohammed Fayed's case seems to be that the Establishment was so appalled at the idea of her marrying a Muslim they had her offed. Even if she was planning to marry Dodi (which I don't believe), I can't see the Establishment giving a toss. It would have freed Charles to marry Camilla, and frankly I think the powers that be would have been quite pleased to see her marry a Muslim. It would have diminished her appeal to Mail readers, whilst demonstrating how multi-culti modern Britain has become. A win-win I'd have said.
I rather think that any assassination attempt that could be thwarted by the victim wearing a seatbelt is a bit piss-poor. I feel sorry for al-Fayed having lost his son, but now he's telling Princes William and Harry that their granddad had their mum murdered. That's pretty outrageous however you look at it. He's labelled Phil the Greek a Nazi because he has German relatives, ignoring the fact that Phil fought in the Royal Navy throughout the war. I think he's got rather better anti-Nazi credentials than Mo on this score.

Do you honestly think that someone who was so closely linked to the Royal Family with all her protection that her body guards would let a driver who was supposedly more than three times over the limit drive the car !thumbsdown!
