Inflation

Post by dynatech »

Does anyone know what the real current level of inflation is in the UK?
I'm a little concerned that Unison have not started discussing with my place of work what our pay rise will be next April.
Last time the suckers "negotiated" a 3-year deal of less than 3% a year which was crap.
I'm not talking about what the government makes out is the figure, I'm talking about the REAL rise in the cost of living in this nanny-state!
If they offer 3% or similar I will tell them where to stick it

They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

The point I'm out to make is REAL inflation is not at 3%.
If wage increases are brokered that do not take into account the rise in the costs of living then they are not serving their purpose.
I'm not talking about the rise on house prices but the rise in things we all have to pay for out of out wages regardless of how we spend our leisure time. Someone who chooses to drive a nice car can only whinge about the price of petrol as much as bores in little boxes, but the price of fuel is just one issue in many such as council tax, domestic fuels etc etc. And these are NOT going up by the RPI
Unison brokered us a 3-year deal in 2004: 3.5% for 2004, followed by 2.75% in 2005 & 2006. I wasn't impressed. I am well aware of how several unions and workers combined to wreek havoc on the economy in the 70's with unreasonable demands, my point is tiny wage increases are not representative of the actual rise in living costs and every year I am less well off although my salary has risen.

RPI ignores house price inflation which has been enormous.
