Congestion Zone Expantion V-Day 2007

Post by Cenobitez »

During our stay in london, we spoke to many taxi drivers.

A few of them commented that from 14th February 2007 the congestion zone is being expanded to pretty much Zone 1 and 2 of the underground system, where now its pretty much just Zone 1, this will includer Cheasea, Kensinton, and other areas.

How long before the whole of london goes ?

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?

I believe it will be extended out westwards along the existing Chelsea Embankment/Warwick Road/Earls Court primary route, which will become the new Ring Road.

To soften the blow, they are increasing-I think- the exemptions.

... and how long before other large cities start jumping on the "congestion charge" gravy train as well and impose their own taxes? Not long, I'd wager!

This was always inevitable, right from when the congestion charge was first announced. It's the oldest trick in the book: Introduce (and then increase) taxes gradually and in stages so that the plebs don't become too restless and take to the streets in protest. Red Ken obviously learned from Maggie Thatcher's Poll Tax debacle.

First it was said that the so-called "congestion charge" was just being imposed on a relatively small area of central London. Then last week came the announcement that a "pollution charge" was going to be added for 4x4s and other bigger cars. Now the zone itself is also being expanded.

Expect similar gradual creeping extensions to the zone every year or two from now on. And periodical increases to the charge itself, of course.

Red Ken - the money-grabbing cunt - is rapidly shaping up to take over Dick Turpin's mantle as the biggest highway robber that Britain has ever produced.

One thing which I don't expect to happen again is for the serfs to be asked their opinion. They tried that in Edinburgh, and the people voted no, so I don't expect the modern day robber barons to make that mistake again.
