Not being a huge fan of the drummer, I suspect it may be his prolonged absence from the limelight that is behind his decision to rejoin Banks and Rutherford and do this. He also had a bit of a go at Peter Gabriel for not wanting to get involved (saying he has forgotten how to have "fun"). They and Steve Hackett had discussed reforming, but Gabriel and Hackett have their own careers and don't need to get involved.

31 years since Gabriel left, 29 since Hackett decided enough was enough. Did the Modesty Bypass really think they'd be willing to come back just for the pleasure of performing with him?

As for your feelings about the fuss, and whether or not they were boring, well, that's down to personal taste, Mr McF. They had their moments. But if they are remembered a century hence, it'll be as where Gabriel started rather than for anything they did without him.

Been a fan since the 70's, saw them at Wembley Arena in the early 80's and they brilliant. By the time Gabriel went, he was well wierd but Hacket was missed.
Their live concerts were out of this world, excellent music and fantastic lighting effects.
Collins did turn into a good old boy along with Sting and co but he can still cut it on the drums so I expect their tour to be sold out.

Genesis were great....Hell I even like Phil Coillins when he went solo. So I only ever had one album (invisible Touch) but like a lot of artists, I can respect their talents even if I dont dig deep in my pockets to buy everything they do. I had more Peter Gabriel albums though.

Just reading this thread had me singing a couple of their tunes in my mind....Su-su-sudio! Oh-oooh!

I have to say I prefer the earlier Genesis (Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, etc.) and while Gabriel may have lost the plot slightly with The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, the stuff they produced after he left, with the exception of Afterglow from "Wind & Wuthering", went from dire to fucking awful.


Their live shows in the early to mid-eighties were, however, awesome, and Chester Thompson proved himself the equal of Phil Colins on the drums.
