If you don't or can't convert files there is a rather crude way that works though. Assuming you can connect your PC to your external DVD recorder via Svideo.

I connect up the two units with a svideo cable and use another cable for sound from the sound card to the phono input of the dvd recorder. (Turn your PC sound to full).

I then play the clip using www.videolan.org set to full screen, and record to the DVD.

You get surprisingly good results.

A few points to do is .-

Set a restore point on the PC first. (I sometimes get the PC graphics settings altered and if you dont know what they were you can easily restore your settings)
Move the mouse pointer off the screen.
Turn off any wireless connection.
Turn off any scheduled tasks.
After all you don't want wireless network warnings or virus scan results appearing in the middle of your DVD recording.

If you are looking to simply do a backup of the wmv files so that your hdd does not get full up, then simply use nero and create a 'data dvd'.

Open Nero Smartstart

Select DVD

Select Make Data DVD

If at this point you are not in Nero Express, click the eighth icon from the left.

Now click Add (top right)

Navigate to your folder with wmv's in and select which you want. When done click finish. (You will see the amount of space you are using at the bottom of the screen. You will be warned if you go over the disc limit.)

Click Next (bottom right)

Give the disc a name and click 'burn.'

Check the disc by opening a file or two with WMP and then if all ok, delete the files from your hdd.

If you only need back up copies you can easily burn wmv to cd so you can always view them on a comp but of course if you wanted to view them via a dvd player then this is no use.

I make video cd's from wmv files using nero 6, the quality is pretty good and they playback fine on most DVD player/Recorders.
