Once again, the cowardly world community allows state terrorism to continue----in fact giving it the green light as far as the Israelis are concerned. The Nazis used the same argument in the 1930s for what it was doing to Czechoslovakia and Austria.

America's lack of moral backbone (ironic considering the supposedly moralistic stance this Christian country uses to justify its policies) is par for the course, but what about us? Our gutless government is quite happy to sit by while civilians are butchered in the name of destroying Hezbollah. And yet another generation is given reason to hate the west and all we stand for.

We have got to remove the American heel from our throat. The "special relationship" is about as convincing as Scotland's "auld alliance" with France: they told us what to do, and we did it.When we needed US support most, 1982 in the Falklands, they stayed neutral. In the interim, we have allowed them to use our airbases to bomb Libya, housed their nuclear weapons, walk into a sovereign state in their backyard (Grenada) without a word of complaint, and let them drag us into an unwinnable conflict in Iraq.

Are we now to sit by and watch yet more Israeli atrocities on the civilian population of Lebanon?

Oh, and anyone who thinks the bombing of the UN monitoring post was a genuine mistake is naive beyond belief. Israel doesn't want any witnesses to what is going to happen in the south of the country, and the UN pulling out for fear of other "mistakes" plays into their hands.

Hezbollah is a vile, nasty organisation. All Israel's action in Lebanon is achieving is recruiting more to the cause.

I also like the fact that Team America World Police didn't even ask if it could use Prestwick Airport as a stop over on its way to deliver more missiles to Israel. The Goverments response was "they should have asked first" note not "please do not use it".....

Both Israel and the US have vowed to destroy Hezbollah.

I'd like to ask them this; when was the last time that a government was successful in destroying/removing a broad-based resistance movement?

What happened to the FLN, the Viet Cong, the IRA or the Mujahaddin? Where they ever destroyed? Has history taught them nothing?

The killing of innocent civilians in Lebanon can have only one outcome... the swelling of the ranks of Hezbollah as young Lebanese men feel the injustice of the attacks by Israel on their homeland and decide to fight back.

Resistence movements come about from a sense of injustice and cannot be destroyed by brute force... only the removal of the injustice itself can do that!

The only solution is for the wholesale repatriation of all Jews in Israel who cannot show a link to the area. Send that back to their real homes in Poland, Armenia, Ukraine, Germany etc., and return Palestine to the Palestinians.

In the middle east the problem is Israel. The solution is simple... get rid of Israel and you no longer have a problem!

Hezbollah is used as a tool by Iran and Syria (the latter in particular). Driving moderate Lebanese into the ranks of Hezbollah is playing into the hands of Syria, which had lost much of its influence in the country. The government there will fall within weeks as a result of Israeli action, and the only winners will be in Damascus and Tehran.

Hezbollah is heavily entrenched in Lebanon. Trying to deal with it is difficult without acting as a recruitment officer for it. Imagine if the British government had tried to defeat the IRA by bombing Derry, Belfast, Armagh. Such action would have ensured an independent island nation within months. If we want Lebanon to to be Assad's puppet, then we're going the right way about it.

Rockets being lobbed into Israel requires action. Destroying civilians is not the way.

I suspect you are not being totally objective here Dibble. I wonder why that is.
