Did he cheat?

My persnal opinion is that he did and it's not the first time he's done it either.

Ask Damon Hill...................Schumacher is good but he's the ultimate "Ram Raider"

I was watching the qualification session live and I couldn't believe what I was seeing... or to put it another way, given it was Schumacher I *COULD* believe what I was seeing.

He's cheated his way to several world titles, tried cheating his way to another (and failed, allowing Villeneuve to win the title he deserved) and Ferarri have constantly bent the rules.

When he first started cheating (dangerously running his rivals off the road) the authorities should have taken a stronger stance. Instead they gave him fines which amounted to no mare than half a day's wages, thereby encouraging him to continue cheating.

In spite of his seven titles, nearly 90 GP wins and close to 150 podium finishes, in my mind he has always been a long way behind Senna, Prost, Lauda, Stewart, Fittipaldi, Hakkinen, Alonso, Montoya and many others as a RACING driver.

I agree, Schumacher robbed Damon Hill of a world title, and I've had no time for him ever since. He's a very efficient racing driver, not a great one.

There's also something about his face, he's such a Teuton. I can just see his head peering out of the turret of his tank as it destroys a Russian village.

Well, I live in Germany and I know even GERMANS who hate the bastard and have no time for him.

He's as arrogant as fuck and yes - a serial cheat as well. So good news that he got kicked to the back of the grid for Monaco.

Robches - great "tank commander" analogy by the way! Made me smile and I know what you mean.

Keith - it has nothing to do with being "bad losers" or sour grapes.

The fact is that Damon Hill would have won that world title had Schumacher not deliberately taken him out.

And for your information, the German tabloid press & TV pundits are every bit as jingoistic about their national football team, tennis players and F1 drivers as their British counterparts are: Rampant nationalistic triumphalism when they win, looking for excuses when they lose (and if they can't find an excuse, then stinging ridicule will do just as well). I know - I live in Germany and see it all the time. And I've no reason to believe it's any different in Spain, Italy, France or anywhere else for that matter.

Given my favourite drivers have been Denny Hulme, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna and Juan Pablo Montoya, I don't think you can accuse me of being a "bad losing Brit" when it comes to bad-mouthing Schumacher for cheating throughout his career!

I couldn't care less what Schumacher's nationality is... the man is over-rated as a driver based on his cheating his way to far more wins than he ever deserved.
