Not really a demotion, more of a holiday from responsibility.
I heard on the news that he's no longer heading a department, but he's still deputy PM, and still gets' to keep everything already mentioned, including his huge salary.

I read in a 'red top' paper, where the deal is, he has to admit that his affair has lost labour this local election, if it wasnt for his diddy dick, everything in the new labour world would have been great with no problem and they would have won this election without a problem.

Personally i wanted to vote for and "RG FAWN Party" to complete what they started all those years ago, thats the 'Resurrect Guy Fawkes Armed with Nukes' Party.

I'm no great fan of Prescott, though there was a time some 10 or so years ago when I was. I resigned from the Labour party when Blair took over... my local party had been flooded in a short period of time by sharp suited young thrusting executive types who knew nothing of Labour party history but had plenty to say about how to get into power! At the time, with Prescott elected as deputy leader of the party, I believed he might be able to appy a counter-balance to the excesses of the "new Labour" people. Sadly I was wrong.

However, there is a reason why he is still deputy PM.

Firstly, from a purely party point of view, he is still the deputy leader of the party... an elected position which can't be taken away from him unless he resigns from the position, or looses the position next time the leadership is elected. Secondly, inspite of promoting many of his own supporters in the re-shuffle, Blair couldn't put a Blairite as deputy PM. Nor would he put a Brownite in the position. He also chairs a lot of cabinet commitees.

That's not to say he deserves all the perks he gets!
