over 60's free bus fares

From April 1st everyone over 60 will be entitled to free local bus travel. Notwithstanding the fact that some pensioners suffer financial hardship, many are far better off than the working people who will have to subsidise it. Is this the best way of getting the poorest pensioners out of poverty? Would it not be better to target the expenditure by means tests? Already some councils are going to cut back on concessions for other travellers as a result of this decision which was in last year's budget.

I agree some Pensioners do suffer hardships and I would never want to take anything away from them that will help them, But I do wonder about us working People. The bus Companies are going to want to recoup the losses from somewere and I guess its from us the average working joe's. As I said good luck to the Pensioners but we the Tax payers are hammered the hardest, and saving Pensioners money will cost us more out of our pockets and we have families to support.

Not as bad as in London. Ken in his wisdom has given all under 16's free bus travel (in addition to the over 60's who have deservedly imho had it for a while). The consequences have been exactly as predicted - tw*ts in hooded tops running completely amok!
