Depp was voted there by fellow actors... in the interviews they talked about the wide range of characters, the fact he doesn't "play it safe" in the roles he choses and that when he's on screen your eyes are naturally drawn to him.

However, 2 does seem quite high given the actors at 5th equal!

I'm surprised that Tom Hanks was as low as 39th given the diversity of roles he's played.

I'm also surprised Olivier is at 4... he was nothing but a ham! (as was Gielgud)

Where is James woods, in my opinion a top class actor. Al Pacino number 4, he could act the ass of any one in that list. number 28 taking the piss I think, must be a sentimental vote.

Roy.

Sean Penn was no.19 cant you read ?

The thing that gets me about all this is the Brando thing, im now absolutely fascinated by this idea that ONE man changed the wholllllee thing altogether forever. Thats unbelieveable really isnt it. Can someone can confirm or correct this for me please, because this is how i understand Brando's influence:-

..he introduced method to the masses which is basically living the character not just pretending, but prior to his appearance all actors were like they were in 1930's classics; over dramatic, ham-esque, theatrical, forced kind of performances and then he made it more natural and human by acting how people ACTUALLY act. Is that what he did - could someone clarify for me because its all a loooong time before my time?

I always thought Brando was just reverred because he was in good films in the 50s , but then did Apocalypse Now and The Godfather and just got a kind of repect thing going..

Even Elvis wanted to be him...jesus h christ :S!

I watched the programme and the interviewees were all people on the list or in a few cases the spouses/children of those on the list but no longer with us.

The poll was taken amongst BAFTA and AMPAS members, so not just Hollyoaks or Brookside people. !shocked!
