Come on lets give it up for Joe Calzage.

What a fantastic performance and for me it rates as one of the greatest by a British boxer that I've ever seen. I've only been watching boxing for 25 years or so but it compares with anything else. Lloyd Honegan beating Don Curry etc and I dare somebody to suggest a better performance considering the high standard of the opposition.

I've always had time for Calzage. He always gives great entertainment and gets involved in some right tear ups and glad to see that he will finally get the recognition that he fully deserves.

You know I often take the piss out of Welsh people (for obvious reasons lol) and have always ribbed them about being proud to be welsh (why lol) but you can be proud of your man. It was a great night for british boxing but above all a great night for Welsh boxing.

Joe Calazage is a star of the highest quality.

I've always rated Joe, as do many yank fighters who won't fight him. EXCELLENT display of boxing.

As for best fight from a Brit, well, that tragic episode was Nigel Benn v Gerald McCleland.

That was one of the greatest performances I have seen from ANY boxer never mind a British fighter bearing in mind how feared and dangerous Lacey was meant to be, Calzaghe's accuracy coupled with devastating hand speed, stamina, fearless confidence and supreme boxing skills were just fucking awesome, just wonder what he would be like with two healthy hands.

The strange thing with Calzaghe is that he is not built to punch the way he does, he looks kind of nerdy but I doubt many would say that to his face. I have never seen such a one-sided title fight in years and it wasn't for the lack of trying on Laceys part, he was just dismantled from the opening bell and left resembling a zombie extra from an Evil Dead film.

Carl Froch had better think again before opening his big mouth and slagging the Champion off, though I don't reckon that fight will be made any time soon.

By all accounts Crofter, Joe is a very quiet, unassuming and shy person. Still lives and drinks at the same places he did as a youth. Locals there are very protective of him........not that he needs any!!

The guy he fought Satruday was in Boxing Scene top 6 pound for pound fighters in the world and Calzaghe annihalated him.

So where does that put Calzaghe pound for pound now?

Definiteley in the top 3.

It's been the rap with Calzaghe for a while that he never had the career defining fight but that's not his fault if the yanks either ducked him or priced themselves (same thing really) out of a fight with him.

Seeing as we are talking about fighters who ducked the best then I give you Roy Jones jnr. Many think he's one of the greatest fighters of all time but for me, nah! He had that big fat HBO contract and could pick and choose and therefore fought stiffs, bums and mexican road sweepers.

He was a very good fighter, definitely, but not one of the greatest of all.

I thought Joe`s fight was brill. A fight that was excellent viewing. It`s kind of deceptive when you look at him, cause he doesn`t have a typical ripped muscular body, he looks normal. But he proves that you don`t have to built like a bodybuilder to beat someone up. His stamina was amazing. The workrate was still consistent in the later stages. I`ll be watching him from now on.
