The oil's running out, and if you're under 30 it will probably run out in your lifetime. So what would you prefer to do

1. dot nuclear powerstations around the country
2. have a windmill in your back garden
3. have energy blackouts

We need a mixture of both because we dont want to rely on one source of energy, but dont forget we still have massive reserves of coal and i watched a programme a few weeks ago and they reckon they can turn coal into liquid fuel with only a fraction of the emissions of present day fuels?

These figures we get from time to time about there being only 30 years reserves of fuel (or whatever the figure is) can be very misleading. I worked closely with Shell at one time when I was photographing lots and lots of bottles of oil. The thing is that oil companies do oil exploration to find oil so that they have reserves of oil to call upon for future production. They usually maintain about 30 to 40 years of future oil reserves otherwise what is the point of spending money finding oil you are not going to use for say 50 to 100 hundred years?

These figures are published and everyone gets worried that oil is going to run out in their lifetime. I can remember there being only 30 years of oil reserves during the 1970s.

Build them. I live 50 miles from Sellafield and only 12 miles from Chappelcross and never give them a thought. Sellafield is probably the safest place in Britain to work.

So we will have to rely on putin for our future energy needs, put up ugly windfarms in national parks and pay ?2 a litre for fuel from hot headed Arabs? The French, Germans, Swiss etc all swear by Nuclear. I would feel much less safe living next to a poultry farm or sewage works.
