Two people:one close,an Uncle, jumped under the GWR Cheltenham Flyer express outside Swindon station back in the '50's,suffering from depression. If you have got to go make sure it's done in style.
The other was a young actress I photographed back in the sixties for a national newspaper,a few months later I had a call from Fleet Street saying she had jumped off Beachy Head & could the nationals use the pictures I had on her.Word travelled fast I had the last pictures taken of her.(head shots).

Death comes to all of us at sometime:some take extreme measures.

I had an old mate in Swindon who jumped from one train in front of another about 20 years ago. He never got over his brother being one of the executed mercenaries that went to Angola. His brother was the one in the wheelchair. My very first girlfriend (lost our virginity together) also killed herself after leaving school after her father in-law died of cancer suddenly - turned out she'd been having an affair with him for 6 months.

My best mate did when he was only 27..blew his own brains out with a gun
leaving behind a 6 month year old daughter and his wife

Mind you I probably would have done the same if my wife & newborn had come to work with me 7 days a week and never given me anyspace to breathe.Enough to drive anyone to dispair I'd suspect

When you consider estimates put those with a Mental Illness at 450,000 million diagnosed/undiagnosed its not hard to see why 873,000 suicide every year

Just look at the stats country by country
The best countries to live aren't the ones with the lowest rates
which speaks volumes about where mental health rates

cheers

My cousin was in his mid twentys when he jumped thru the loft hatch, hanging himself. He must have thought/planned it, beforehand as it isn't a common way. Still at least he didn't shock anyone like the poor old train drivers.

Also when I was in the aircraft industry I was on a test flight, we shot an approach in a twin and was climbing out fairly high. The pilot asked if I like Airobatics, next thing we had done a barrel roll... the aircraft was only a passenger twin NOT cleared for aerobatics ever.... The same year he commited suicide. Yet he had surrvived a spin accident some years before where his student didn't. Maybe he felt guilty poor man.

Blimey, how gloomy but I know of three people who checked themselves out. One guy I used to work with blew his brains out while parked in his 2CV, I can't remember why. Another guy was a complete alcoholic and had lost his business and his family so he had one last session on the booze then attached a pipe to his car's exhaust and fucked off.

The saddest of all was a guy I was at college with who hung himself on his 17th birthday. That was tough to take and I can't help thinking that whatever it was that was getting him down could have been overcome. What can be so bad that someone would do that at 17 years of age?

I've always thought it was a cowardly and selfish act.
