Favourite Elton John Tunes

I wouldn't call myself a big fan of Queen Elton - prolific he may be but his output has been consistantly inconsistant, at least since circa 1977. He's had plenty of good tunes over the years, though I can't say I'm a big fan of his over-wrought over-played "classics" such as Dildo In The Wind & Don't Let Your Son Go Down On Me or his MOR post-90 stuff.
My favourites are:
Song For Guy - beautiful tune, great arrangement and benefits from being almost an instrumental.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Great tune with a lovely sense of melancholy running through it
Bennie & The Jets - quite possibly his grooviest tune

The mans gotta get a hand for Dont Go Breaking My Heart with Kiki Dee....I dont care about what people think about Elton...His musical talents speaks volumes in itself.
Rocket Man, Your Song, Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting, Philadelphia Freedom, Pinball Wizard...Need I go on? Hell, I even like some of his more recent efforts...The man is a musical genius as far as I'm concerned.
Btw...Sorry Michelle, i ;ve always found Daniel slit-your-wrists depressing. Sorry to be horrible. Just being honest...it is a good song, if you're looking to bawl your eyes out and feel down for no reason...

No takers for "Tiny Dancer?" Or the mighty "Someone Saved My Life Tonight?" Ok, let's see...Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Pretty much that whole album basically), The Bitch Is Back from his early days are bona fide classics. I dig "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" the most of his mid period stuff and I reckon "Made In England" stands out from his latter stuff which, to be honest, I really don't dig the majority of.
Has anybody else noticed that the wig he's running these days is a whole lot better than the crow's nest he was sporting for many a moon?

Add "Blue Eyes" to that list, it's a strangely un-Elton type of tune, written more like an older "standard" and quite underated. It was his first UK 80's hit in the spring of 82 heralding his mid-80's renaisance. Hard to believe he didn't have a top 30 UK hit between January 79 (Song For Guy) and April 82.
"Are You Ready For Love" is worth a mention too, great great tune that's still a bit over-familier, it's hard to believe it limped to UK#42 in 1979 and was a forgotten part of his catalogue.

Yes I concur with many choices already listed....Tiny Dancer, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues, Crocodile Rock, Blue Eyes, Candle In The Wind, Rocket Man, Are You Ready For Love, Sacrifice....
Not my favourite singer by a long stretch but he's done some great singles. Ebay's chocca with them (just looked to remind myself of some of the titles!).

Too many Elton faves to mention but I have been listening to Measure Of A Man recently, top tune.
