Your right,there are Cyclists who have flaunted the road rules(as do Motorcyclists) most likely because they don't know them or choose to ignore them see bike couriers



Common sense says the only way forward is bike corridors or lanes
Even the dutch use of footpaths is smarter than having cycles on the same thoroughfare as Cars

I wonder how many Car drivers would fail a licence test today?

Agree with you and that is from a tourist cyclist. Trouble is the commuting cyclist do think they are imune from deeath and the law. I 30 years as a touring cyclist including several major tours (J.burg to Harare) never seen a tourist misbehave

I cycle everywhere out of a commitment to reducing my carbon footprint and I'm proud of that. Not self-righteous, proud. It really depresses me that so many people point the finger at 'spandex-wearers' and 'do-gooders' on bikes. At least they're doing something positive rather than dsimissing environmental concerns as hippyish or laughable.

Most accidents that I've seen involving cyclists are caused by cyclists , because they simply don't obey the rules of the road. However, the increase of people driving like pig-fuckers makes it hard to keep safe as a cyclist and breeds a hostile attitude. More consideration all round needed.

people who cycle on the footpath piss me off.

I bike to work everyday. I do this for several reason:
1) Even though we have free car parking, biking to work makes me feel as if my boring sedentiary job I have done something.
2) I live 3 miles away - driving there on a cold engine and then driving back home 8 hours later on a cold engine does neither my cars engine any good nor gives decent fuel consumption. Not to mention it getting damp, wet etc sat in the car park when it could be in my garage away from the elements.
3) I am on PAYE, therefore do not wish to spend a fraction of my over-taxed income on propelling myself to and from my place of work, especially when so much of that cost is further duty.
I bike to and from places close by, I am not po-faced about it, I do it cos it's more conveniant. However, I'm still what you might call a "petrol-head" with a big collection of cars.
I bike safely - sometimes, when there is no traffic about, I go through red lights, go on the pavement, but I put no-one else at risk when doing this.

To me, the motorist vs cyclist argument is a load of bollocks engineered by people that would like to tie cycling up in the same kind of legislation they managed to with motorists.

why?
There's a time and a place and sometimes it's safer/ more convenient to cycle on the pavement.

I cycle in London and yes as you've demonstrated, motorists are very jealous of us cyclists.

1) We move faster
2) No fuel costs
3) We can park wherever we want - free!
4) No congestion charge
5) We're fitter with less stress and back problems, etc.
