Radio 2

Have reached the age where Radio 2 is what I listen to instead of Radio 1 and as a rule am happy with the content. Mon-Fri, Wogan is excellent, can put up with Bruce, enjoy getting angry at Vine, enjoy Wright & Walker. Saturdays ok although Sounds of the Sixties reminds me how much crap there was about at the time, Ross ok if he could let a guest get a word in from time to time and stopped waffling on about how he wants to be Gay, then some good comedy. My complaint is about Sundays, starts with a religious programme hosted by a RC, I'm sure Vatican FM isn't hosted by a Protestant. Then Steve Wright who as I said has an excellent weekday show puts out a couple of hours of mush. I like playing what word gets used most this week, "rock" or "soul-mate" get a room. Then Parky who has interesting guests but plays bloody awful jazz, the station then deteriorates into the old Light programme and has to be turned off. As Sunday is the main listening day why does Radio 2 insist on a programme list from the 1950's, expect Danny Street and the Northern Dance Orchestra to get a show soon.

You haven't mentioned the ginger tosser show on Saturday afternoon.

Can't stand Sarah Kennedy or Wogan, but the rest of the day is fine.

As long as I don't turn R2 on until about 9:30, I can listen all day.

I think Johnnie Walker is excellent. Always try to catch "Ask Elvis" on Steve Wright, that's a real good laugh.

R2 - is fine on weekdays, but I steer well clear at weekends.

Trouble is it's the BBC and they want to be into everything at our expense, greedy bastards .... they like to spend money on useless crap that nobody watches and then skimp on what's half decent. There's no motive for them to give satisfaction to their viewers/listeners as they just sit back and wait for the license fee money to roll in ... they also employ far too many staff on high salaries, just because they have a degree from Cambridge - and what's more, they still can't do the job 10 years down the line. They need to be broken up most arms sold off - they only need a few core channels and they can fund them by partial advertising and money from the Lottery. They're also politically biased but that's because they're scared of upsetting the government and not being able to extort more money out of people who don't even want to watch the dross.

But it's all about the voices, isn't it. That's the key.

Wogan and the chirpy Bruce twitter away in soothing tones, but at lunchtime the station goes to pieces. As much as I dislike Steve Wright's badly dated, faux-yankee drawl, Jeremy Vine's sanctimonious, geography teacher intonation is far worse. They should get shut of him and his pc middle-england, soapbox bleatings immediately. Got a knee-jerk opinion? Ring in now.

More Bob Harris.

Bob Harris!!!!! i hated that twat with a passion. When "whispering"Bob used to front the Old Grey Whistle test at the height of the punk rock explosion, you could really tell that he hated that type of music, and what he really wanted to play was a little bit of Foghat,Grandfunk railroad or a bit of wishbone Ash.
It was amusing though, watching his reaction to Public image limited and John lydon screamin his head off, bob turned around and just said "wow, that was greeeeaaat"; with absolutely no emotion in that forty benson and hedges voice of his.You could tell that he absolutely detested them.
You're right about Radio 2 on sunday though, it is shit.
Oh and ifthere is one thing worse than " whispering Bob", It's that untalented ginger c**t that goes by the name of Chris Evans.

Steve Wright was revered when at Radio One for using the "zoo" format and actually being quite funny. 15/20 years later on Radio Two, though trying to stay the same, he has become a middle-aged smug opinionated bore, who quite clearly hates music and loves the sound of his own voice... and his interviews are beyond a joke, arse-kissing whoever is on promoting whatever.
I can't abide the Jeremy Vine show either, his smug chairing of whatever todays pathetic 6th form debate is about does my head in, stupid old Daily Express readers should not be encouraged to ring up an otherwise good radio station to complain about cyclists riding on the pavement.
And Pick of The Pops is back on a Sunday, it is a pity they spoil it with Dale Winton, it would be the PERFECT show with, say, Mike Read or Mark Goodier presenting. 90 minutes a week isn't near long enough either....
