Underated by all, bar those influenced by them, are Gang of Four.
As for LPs...
Word Salad - Fischer Z
Entertainment - Gang of Four
Laughing Academy - Punishment of Luxury
Misplaced Ideals - Sad Caf?
A Can of Bees - Soft Boys

Will Oldham aka bonnie prince billy. In particular the albums Master and Everyone, Ease Down The Road and especially I See A Darkness. Alt country at it's finest.Underated may be the wrong term; unknown or overlooked are more appropriate for this lad.

Mansun - fine band who put out some fantastic singles (Wide Open Space, Legacy, I Can Only Disappoint You etc) and the very brilliant Six album.

jesus been along time since I posted here my hearties ....
10 cc I don?t see as being as overrated steve56 as they probably was the bees knees for a time ? but let?s just say that the album with "Mandy" on is easily one of the all time classic beats whether viewed as part of an album or via the single route, it is all a bit before my time but always remember the stuff that my older brothers taught me, what about Dire Straight?s wtf happened to those guys??
just one of the groups that seemed to hit their peak sure but did not even try and have follow ups??? but before that they had some decent albums and tracks that were really only magnified by the success of that one great album.
