My point made in the post below is not about the legality of the actual porn itself - its about the legality of selling it. To take UK law at complete face value you cannot sell any uncertified porn in the UK and can only sell R18 from a licenced sex shop (i.e. not mail order / internet).
As a punter you can buy R18 from anywhere completely legally and pretty safely buy non R18 again from anywhere as long as the content doesnt exceed whats allowed under R18 guidelines. Even if it does exceed the guidelines unless its very extreme the worst you will get is a slapped wrist and the movie confiscated.

As a private individual there is no law and never has been to forbid you owning any type of porn featuring adults. It is illegal to sell unclassified material or even sell R18 from non-licensed premises, but it's not illegal to own it or buy either - it is only the seller who is breaking the law.

....... the only time you may come in contact with the authorities is if you try and import material they consider unsuitable, but this only usually results in confiscation by HM Customs, unless you are bringing it in in quantities that would suggest you are going to distribute it.

"As a private individual there is no law and never has been to forbid you owning any type of porn featuring adults."
Not being picky here but that should say consenting adults.
As I understand it then it is not legal to own films that show somebody being coerced or forced into doing something whether it's for real or simulated.
However the law may have changed since I was involved in the selling of films so somebody please correct me if I am now wrong.

I don't think there is a law to stop you owning such a movie, although it would contravine several laws in making one in the UK or trying to sell it. The only law that exists is to forbid the ownership of movies with those under the age of consent, but technically owning a movie featuring 16 an 17 year olds is not illegal, although distribution would be. That's my understanding of the law.

If it were not legal to own films that show somebody being coerced or forced into doing something whether it's for real or simulated .... then it would encompass many legitimate movies like The Postman Rings Twice (Jack Nicholson) and many other films that contain a rape scene, because in law you couldn't differentiate between a pure porn movie and general 'entertainment'. to my knowledge nobody has ever been prosecuted un the UK for owning a film featuring rape or S&M (however hard) ... the only prosecutions are for making, appearing in, distribution or importing.

I still can't believe hardcore was illegal for so long in the UK.
What a strange little country Britain can be.
