I am pissing myself laughing, a friend of mine, a devout Liverpool fan must have used the fuck and cunt words at least 100 times in denouncing his greed!

I think we should hire a hitman to wipe out football agents, then the game might come to some sanity.

footballer in not being loyal shocker, what are the chances.

He's an overrated player anyway, let Abramovich waste some more of his crooked millions on him.

This was all planned long ago

Last summer, on the verge of leaving, he decides to stay. Now the cynical amongst us might think he did that because of the adverse reaction of the fans at the time. His thinking was probably along the lines of - "give it another year, we can't win fuck all and nobody will blame me if I leave next summer".

Unfortunately, they fluked the Champions League and fucked up his plans. He knows full well they have no chance of repeating that fluke and they've no hopes of winning the title, so he still has to leave....but winning the CL makes it hard to go in the sympathetic way he wanted. So instead he cooks up a ridiculous scenario where the club don't want him. His reasoning? They haven't got him signed up to a new deal, but have done a deal with Didi Hamann already.

Well, excuse me Stevie.... A contract extension of three or four years with the club captain, worth a minimum ?100k a week with all the escape clauses you'd want takes time to set up. Extending the contract for a year of a free agent in his mid thirties is child's play compared to your deal.

He wanted to go, so he's going.

Totally agree with you as I believe he never had any intention of signing a new deal at any time.

His excuse (at the time) that it took the club 2 days to come back with an offer is bollocks. The club had to wait 7 months to get a meeting with him and he throws his toys out of the pram after 2 days. Absolute shite.

At least today he's finally come out and given the real reason behind it. However I bet his agents had something to with it.

It's about lining peoples pockets pure and simple.

The strange thing is that moronic football fans think the players care.Gerrard will make ?3m signing on fee.More than his big new contract at Liverpool. You do the maths.Wake up and smell the coffee ..these players do it for themselves and their families and why not..football fans are too full of their self importance.Look at the Man Utd lot protesting in the carpark..pleeeaase!!

Both sides(management & players) are the same

Why should players show loyalty when management will sell them to the highest bidder in a second when they become surplus to requirements?

All part of the wonderful game known as BIG BUSINESS

Loyalty died years ago but seems to be something the fans think is still alive & kicking

Only Gerrard will know the real reasons he left but I think its purely about chasing Silverware and getting out of the pressure cooker.

At least as Chelski he's not going to be seen as the only Star who must deliver like he was at Liverpool. It will be a different kind of pressure

cheers

Possible midfield of Lampard, Gerrard and Makelele..... can't wait! :-)

As for loyalty..... why should players be "loyal"? If trophies and a better bank balance can be achieved elsewhere then the decision is simple.

Owen left and Liverpool won the Champions League, sticking a firm 2 fingers up at him.

Gerrard leaving. Maybe the Premiership, who knows.

Everyone said Everton would fall apart without Rooney, and look what they did! If Gerrard does not want to be there then get rid of him, use the 35m to buy a couple more defenders and a couple of midfeild players to support Alonso, then ets see what happens.
