I saw the trailer before War Of The Worlds earlier and got the opposite impression - the CGI looked a bit ropey on the big screen.

I saw the original again about a year ago, and was impressed with how strong it was considering when it was made. Coming before the Hays Office was in full swing, there was a definite sexual theme to the relationship between big monkey and blonde, but what was astounding was the amount of gratuitous killings that occurred.
From the trailer, it looks like the remake could be a winner. Jackson and co have gone for the 1930s look, Kong sounds impressive, and Jack Black is ideal as the cynical film-maker. Whether Naomi Watts' lungs can compare with Fay Wray's is something we'll have to wait to discover.
