Comic books work on various levels. I grew up reading the Marvel comics, yet it wasn't until the X-Men movie came out that someone said that Xavier and Magneto represented two of the notable figures around when the original strips were written: Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.

Authority thinks cartoons and comics are just for kids, so the writers get away with more. Your average episode of The Simpsons probably runs down America more than al-Jazeera, only in a more subtle way. On the other end of the scale---not subtle in the least---you have South Park, suggesting that all Catholic priests have sex with altar boys, and no one complains and threatens to sue.

So no one is running down comic strips and the like, firekind.
