Hypnotism

Post by R18 DVD Shop »

Has anyone ever tried hypnosis as a method of giving up something (smoking perhaps) or, in my case, losing weight?? Any comments about the overall experience, cost and results you would like to share?

Might be worth trying some of those self-help programmes first, Jay. The latest Paul McKenna book is straightforward and gives some tips and exercises on changing your own mental view of yourself----and in many cases that's the root of the problem.

As for hypnotism, well, it's like most methods I'd guess, in that it works for some people and does nothing for others. You can exercise and diet all you want, but first of all you need to change your thinking and the mental image you have of yourself.

Hope someone has better advice (and perhaps some pertinent comments on your actual question) to offer.

Change Your Life In 7 Days.

Little bits to try each day to reinforce the earlier exercises. As with most of these things, you need to believe it will work. Listening to the CD in a darkened room will put you into a relaxed mood. I haven't got too far into the book, but I've been impressed by what I've read so far. Common sense, perhaps, but none the worse for that.

But at the end of the day the only solutionis to not eat as much - and a good way to achieve that is to not buy as much, then it's not there to tempt you. Empty cupboards are an excellent deterrent to eating. Also start your diet by eating enough of everything you really like to make you feel sick as an aversion therapy - then you won't want to touch the stuff with a barge poll anymore. Failing any of above, become bolemic and make yourself sick to bring up undigested food - it only takes two fingers and works for many models. Hypnotism is a con, because you can't be persuaded to do anything you really don't want to do.

I had hypnosis years ago for sleep/relaxation difficulties. It worked extremely well (and at ?60 a session it certainly should've). Can't say what the rates are like these days, and as with much they'll vary from place to place. Your local yellow pages should list clinics nearby if you wanted to enquire.

If you haven't done so already, you should perhaps talk to your GP about weightloss. They'll more than likely refer you to a nutritionist who will help you on a purely one to one basis - a friend of mine took this route after ploughing through endless diet fads and the results were notable.

Whichever, all the best.

The challenge I face (and Im in no way claiming to be alone on this one) is not that I dont know what I should and shouldnt eat or what I should and shouldnt do - Im actually a very intelligent person and I know all about carbs, proteins, fats and calories, what they do, how they work, why they work, why some are good and some are bad and some are both good and bad! I know all about the different types of cardio and resistance exercises and again which can help me safely and which are best and worst.

My issue is actually much more of a mental problem hence my interest in hypnotism. Its all about how I see myself, my self hatred and my TOTAL lack of both self esteem. In essence my problem is the ultimate catch 22 and vicious circle combined - put simply, I eat cos Im depressed due to being alone due to being fat and Im fat and alone due to eating due to being depressed and so it goes on. I need to break that cycle and the only way I can is to address the issues in my head not with my body. If I only address the physical things then the mental things always come through and defeat me - if I can fix the underlying and deeper issues then it should make the physical bits easier to achieve.

That's why I suggested the self-help book approach. I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, and know that the change has to come from me---and that means changing my thinking and doing something about the negative self-image.
