Can anyone help me in suggesting a external dvd rewriter. I rather have one that you can connect to computer via usb.
I don't trust myself to install a internal one in the computer as I will probably have to buy a new computer.
I have currently got a NEC dvd rewriter in my computer but it doesn't write any faster than about 2x speed.
Cheers
Andy
External DVD Rewriters
Re: External DVD Rewriters
Look on dabs - you'll find a few at around ?60
Trouble is they're pyhsically large compared to an internal writer.
To install an internal one is very easy - you just set jumpers on back so it is a slave and attach power + ide cables that are already in the pc anyway. Boot up and it's there as another drive letter.

Burning at any more than 2x is not recommended anyway by the professionals. Faster speed = more errors in data. Be patient, and be safe in the knowledge you have the most reliable recording.
I myself have an 8x writer but only use it on 2x for DVD-R and 2.4x for DVD+R.

Re: External DVD Rewriters
My writer is only 4x - but I've had no problems when writing at that speed on +R/-R

If i stay with my dvd rewriter can anyone tell me where I still can get 2.4 speed DVD+rs.
Best Wishes

Re: External DVD Rewriters
There is no need to keep buying 2.4x discs. All the newer discs are backwards compatible. As long as the disc is rated 2.4x or higher you are fine. Burning on 4x, 8x, or even 16x discs will work fine on your machine, they will just burn at 2.4x because thats the speed of your machine.

Re: External DVD Rewriters
I use Nero Burning ROM. Just before you actually tell it to go ahead and burn, there is a little pull down menu that lets you choose from the speeds supported by the recorder and the disc you are using.
If you e-mail me or add me to msn bolly77bolly@hotmail.com I will let you know where to get Nero from.
