At the risk of being accused of baiting Americans again:



Call it a fault, but when something major happens I don't mind my TV programme being interrupted to announce it, just as long as the rest is eventually shown.

Having spent sometime in The US, I can tell you when they interupt programmes, they tend not to stop tape and resume the show from where it was left off. So if the newsflash last 3 minutes, you'd miss 3 mins of the show entirely.
They seem to have a big obsession with everything starting on time, so they'll let nothing overrun generally.
The only exceptions tend to be sport.
