The greatest national manager England never had. What he achieved with Forest was amazing. An abrasive character, sure, but anyone who despised Don Revie can't have been all bad!

A shame he went into such a decline. Greenwood, Taylor, Barrow Boy Venables, Hoddle all squirmed their way into the job. But just imagine what a no-nonsense manager like Clough could have done for you.

As a Derby County supporter (yes, it's me), I'm sorry to hear that. He did some good work for the club, although will always be better remembered for some other team in the midlands. And boozing, obviously, young man.

Saw this on a footy message board:

A former boss of mine had a school mate who went for a trial at Derby County when Cloughie was there. This lad was a pretty good footballer as a fifteen year old. Apparently Cloughie asked him "do you have a job young man?" (this was before the school leaving age was 16).
"Yes, sir. I'm at t'pit (he was from Barnsley).
"How much do you earn young man?"
"Four pounds ten shillings a week Mr Clough".
"How much do you give your mum"
"Thirty shillings, sir".
"Clear off lad. If you won't pay your way at home, there's no place for you here."

He really should have been the England manager.

A genius. Why he was never given the England job or Knighted is a travesty of justice. Fergie gets knighted for 1 Champions League against 3/4th place qualifiers. Clough gets a chuffin OBE for beating nothing but league champions.

RIP Young Man!
