Henrik Larsson - God

Farewell to the King of Kings. The best player ever to grace the Celtic Shirt, often criticised for playing in the SPL but this is a man who scored the winning goal in a World Cup 3rd place play off and scored numerous European Goals, a true legend, not too embarrased to say I had a tear in my eye at the final whistle.

Even as an Arab, I wasn't sorry to see him score. He's been an ambassador for the game---an example of how a sportsman should behave.

It's just a pity that the profusion of foreign players amongst the Glasgow Two seems to have had such a detrimental effect on the national side.
Or is that merely coincidence?

I think it'd just coincendence JJ, the truth is that kids now would rather sit in front of the TV or play a Play Station rather than go outside and play sport be it football, cricket or whatever. In my day by Dad would have booted me outside the house if it was a day like today (quite sunny). Nowaday parents seem quite content to let their offspring play laze about the house (say's JP having spent all of today in front of the telly and PC, but what the fuck I've paid my dues)

I would say it is merely a coincidence jj, if enough decent Scottish players were playing for other clubs then the big two would be falling over themselves to sign them, the problem being that there hasn?t been enough Scottish talent for them to do so, with regard to the foreigners I think you will find that more teams in the top league in England have a bigger ratio of foreigners than Scotland do so not sure how anybody can criticise that, teams like Motherwell, Dundee Utd., Aberdeen etc. are largely made up of youngsters these days so that has to be good for the future.

Fair enough- the foreign influx doesn't seem to have materially affected the quality of England, either- we're still as inconsistent as ever, although there may be an effect on up-and-comers that won't manifest itself for a few years.

And we should say a big Well done to Terry Butcher for steering his team through troubled financial times and finishing top six.

it's just that my failing memory of 70s English League football seems to be of how many great Scots players there were.............

Johnny Wark, Alan Brazil, George Burley... and that was just at Ipswich.
Add in Dalglish, Souness, Hansen, Jordan etc. and it's clear that Scottish football has, for whatever reason, stopped producing good players.

Could be a lot to do with football in scotland being stale !
Aberdeen played Livi 7 times this season
IMO the financial state ot the game will force all clubs outside the Old Firm to play youngsters instead of buying quick fixes.
Not an admirer of the OF but............Larsson it has to be said was a class act !
