Underated 70's films

Following on from my 'Taking of Pelham 123' film, anyone suggest a good underated film from the 70's?
Dog Day Afternoon has been touted here on a regular basis, but my favourite film of all time is the EXCELLENT Warren Beattie (No relation to Sara) film, 'The Parallax View'

Patton (1970). George C Scott , is always worth the watch .
slightly O/t but has anyone read

Trouble is though Elton, is there are some excellent Oscar winning films/stars, and Patton is amongst them, I was thinking of films that are deemed excellent that didn't get the fanfares of say 'Godfather' etc.

A strong contender for the best decade in cinema, especially for the US. It all went tits up once George Lucas & co got into gear, of course - a demise chronicled in full tawdry glory in Peter Biskind's excellent book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls. Thinking about it, overrated '70's cinema would be the more contentious, but anyway...

Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" does it for me. The sort of film that really gets under your skin and stands (or even, perhaps) requires multiple viewings.
Infamously banned on video for 18 years (due to a particularly difficult and ambiguous rape scene), finally released only a year or so ago.
The pacing might seem slow and brooding by today's standards but that was all intentional and the payoff is worth the wait.

Re: George C. Scott. Great in Patton, yep - but he really threw me stealing the show in Dr. Strangelove.

The Wicker Man with Edward Woodward.....very very spooky: A Camp Christopher Lee steals the whole show and Britt Ekland's auto-erotic dance is worth the entrance fee
